
From the Boswell Sisters to The Andrew sisters, those girls provided some truly inspirational music. That era has now been recreated by the glamorous Swingcats.
Based in and around Glasgow, The Swingcats are a honey-laced ensemble who deliver a sassy concoction of jazz led 3-part harmony. Formed in the Spring of 2000, these three girls came together through their shared love of vocal harmony The lone up included actor Alyson Orr, also artistic director and runs her own theatre company – Take Two Productions, actor Laura Ellis, a face made familiar by the Scottish Executive advertising campaign and actor Nicola Auld of the highly successful “The Happy gang”. Pianist and composer Karen MacIver, whose resonating touch has gelled together a marvellous repertoire of well known classics completes the groups line up.
Their first demo CD was recorded by BBC Radio celebrity and Pearlfishers front man David Scott features the talents of the Scottish Musician and actor, Dave Anderson. Their debut Album “Swing It!” was recorded in December 2002 and captures the nostalgic, classic sounds of the 1930-1940’s era. The girls have thrilled audiences throughout Scotland and have completed several sell out tours of theatres to great acclaim. Highlights have included a big band night at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall with Carol Kidd and an open air performance in George Square during the Glasgow Jazz Festival.
The Swingcats are perfect for openings and launches, formal celebrations, themed events and concerts. From the Golden age of Swing to the motivational songs of wartime, this all female group are an ensemble for all occasions. Rich in optimism and cheerful in delivery.
