The Brakes have been our 'house band' for over 2 years. Verden Studios is the largest and most prolific studio in Edinburgh and the Brakes have a permanent room here which sets the standard for the only fully computer-controlled rehearsal facility in Scotland. The Brakes? engineer uses the facility to assist us with our work for Creative Scotland (previously the Scottish Arts Council) in our work with young and developing bands, allowing us to effectively record and monitor in real time, developing artists and offer live pre production and editing prior to recording.
When we run an event that needs a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, the Brakes always fit the bill. They are dependable, professional and popular and have formed an integral part in making our in-house and out-of-house events great successes year on year.
The Brakes played my 40th birthday party in August 2012. Although we know the singer Stevie, we were not prepared for how good they were. People are still talking about it and it was the best birthday anybody could wish for. Loads of people asked for requests and they were able to do it for us, what more could you want! Highly recommended.
CHAS is a children's charity providing hospice services for children with life-shortening conditions. The Brakes have played at 3 of our events now and we wouldn't hire another band. They are polite and good with the kids. They play a great mix of oldies for the old folk, and keep it interesting for the young ones with chart music. They are friendly, have helped us out at short notice and we book them now because we know that the event will run smooth with them organizing the music; they provide the DJ, run the raffles and games, and we get a lot more than we bargain for with the Brakes.
The Breaks played my 50th birthday party in July 2011 at The Three Sisters in Edinburgh, this was a combined 200th with another 50th, 40th and 60th forming the party. The band has us dancing all night with a good authentic, tight sound and ultimately helped make a success of our party.I liked them so much I booked them for my recent wedding in August, which was held at The Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton. Many of my friends said it was the best wedding they had ever been too and part of this was due to the band putting on such a good show.I run with the Edinburgh Hash House Harriers and the committee have been looking at booking The Brakes for future events as we know they will help us have a great time
