World Music Bands in Durham

Book a world music band in Durham

World music covers the bands that make an event feel like somewhere else. In Durham, they're a favourite for themed parties, corporate away days, Christmas markets and family celebrations, with acts that get guests clapping, stomping and joining in from the first number.

Popular event venues in Durham include Black Horse Beamish, Hardwick Hall Hotel and Beamish Hall Hotel, and our world music acts play events across Sedgefield, Barnard Castle and Durham. Tell us your venue and the theme when you enquire and we'll suggest acts that suit both.

World music is a broad category. Some acts are Bavarian oompah bands in lederhosen, others are ceilidh bands with a caller who teaches every dance or pipers who lead a grand entrance, and others play Latin, klezmer or country. Watching a couple of videos is the quickest way to find the one that fits your theme.

Hireaband has been booking live music since 1999. Every world music act here travels to Durham as standard, brings the equipment it needs, and the quote you receive includes travel — use the instant quote button on this page to check prices and availability for your date.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £600 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • Oompah, ceilidh, pipers, Latin, klezmer, country and other themed acts
  • Sets for a themed party, a full ceilidh evening or a festival slot
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

A three or four-piece suits most parties and roaming sets. For a large beer festival, a full ceilidh evening or a big corporate event, a five-piece or larger band fills the space properly. Tell us the venue, the theme and the guest numbers and we'll suggest what tends to work.

Most world music bookings fall between about £600 and £2,500. The number of musicians is the biggest factor, followed by the date and how long they play — Oktoberfest season and December are the busiest. Travel is included in the quote, so the figure you're given is the figure you pay.

Every act's page has video and audio of the musicians who would actually play, their repertoire and written reviews from people who have booked them. It's the easiest way to check the style and the fun factor before you commit.

Enter your date and venue in the instant quote button for live pricing and availability. After you book, we look after the contract, deposit and details, and keep in touch right up to the event. You also get a 14-day change-of-mind refund and an emergency contact number to use on the day.

FAQs

It covers themed and cultural acts rather than a standard covers band: Bavarian oompah bands for Oktoberfest, ceilidh and folk bands, pipers, Latin and salsa groups, klezmer and Jewish celebration bands, and country acts. Each act's page shows its style and repertoire.

Yes. Ceilidh bands come with a caller who explains and walks guests through each dance before the music starts, so nobody needs to know the steps in advance. It's one of the best ways to get a whole room joining in.

Many can. Oompah bands, pipers and smaller Latin or folk line-ups often play acoustically while moving among guests, which works well for drinks receptions, fun days and festivals. Check the act's page or ask us when you enquire.

Most do. Stage and ceilidh bands bring their own PA; acoustic and roaming acts may need nothing at all. Larger line-ups need floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking both with your venue, along with any sound limiter.

From around £600 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

For Oktoberfest (September and October), Burns Night, St Patrick's Day and December, book as early as you can — these are the busiest dates for themed acts. For other dates, a few months' notice is usually plenty.

“We had so much fun and a lot of that was down to you guys! The violin during the ceremony was perfect and thank you for playing during the canapes, even though we weren't there for this we received many comments that you were both great.
The ceilidh was amazing! Sorry we were difficult to teach, I think for many of our guests this was their first experience of one! But most importantly everyone loved it and had an awesome time.
We would recommend you without hesitation!”

“Hi Tom,
Many thanks to you, the superb band and all the staff at the metalworks for giving us such a great evening on Saturday.
We liked the calling, Tom - just enough info then let them get on with it!
We will certainly be running another such event in the future as our guests loved it.
Thanks again and very best wishes, Ann”

“What can I say about the Insane Pipes? Quite simply they brought a huge smile to everyone's face with their performance on the Main Stage at this years Wessex Folk Festival was one of the highlights of the festival. Of course you can hear them from a long distance away, but that would not do justice to what are a great band of musicians. Their performance was one of the highlights of the festival and they had the crowd on their feet wanting more from their very first number to the last. This was a real treat by a tight unit who know how to play their instruments and work an audience. If you get the chance go see the band as it is well worth it ‬”
